May 7

  • 1917: The man who would hire Mary Poppins is born on this day. Actor David Tomlinson, best known for his role as George W. Banks, is born in England.

May 9

  • 1954: Walt Disney is the proud father walking his first daughter down the aisle as Diane Disney marries Ron Miller. Miller will go on to become Disney CEO only to be replaced by Michael Eisner. To his credit, many of the early successful events of Eisner’s term were based on groundwork laid by Miller.

May 10

  • 1929: The first Silly Symphony, ‘The Skeleton Dance’, is released. Produced and directed by Walt Disney and animated by Up Iwerks, it was the first entry in the series which would provide a testing and training ground for Disney’s plans for feature animated movies.
  • 1959: A second trip down the aisle as Sharon Disney marries Robert Brown.

May 12

  • 1932: Happy Birthday Goofy! ‘Mickey’s Review’ brings us the first appearance of the ‘Goof, then known as Dippy Dawg.

May 13

  • 1933: Mickey takes to the skies again as ‘the Mail Pilot’.
