Disney - What’s Up? Big Figs 2006

Hello everyone. Being a Big Disney collector, it is no surprise that one of my favorite collectibles are Big Figs! Big Figs first came out in 1999 with Classic Mickey and Fab Five series. Since then, Big Figs (some well over 2 feet tall!) have become wonderful friends in the home of many a Disneyana collector. Currently, I have over 150 of these ‘house guests’. Mickey, Minnie, Princesses’, Villains, Disneyland Attractions; Big Figs cover all areas of Disney.

Disney has a full year of Big Fig releases planned. One of the most exciting additions will be a new series form Master Replicas. Best known for producing the recent Monorail, Nautilus, and Jungle Cruise models (as well a Star Wars, Star Trek, Pirates of the Caribbean movie prop reproductions), Master Replicas will be producing four this year starting with a recreation of the Mickey Pop-Up book from the 1930’s. This will be followed later in the year by an ‘Angry’ Donald, Pooh and the Honey Pot, and everyone’s favorite Pixie, Tinker Bell.

New from DisneyShopping.com this year will be some great characters starting with two 101 Dalmatians figures. Pongo cavorts with the puppies, while a Villains series release of Curella DiVille is not quite so playful. For those in a musical mood, a pie-eyed Mickey plucks his box guitar while singing ‘Minnie’s Yoo-Hoo’. In April, the largest Big Fig yet makes his debut in the form of a ‘life-size’ 36” tall Mickey Mouse. He comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) and will be limited to 500 pieces. Other April releases include Dumbo Goes to Disneyland, a Tiki Room Drummer (LE of 1000) and Stitch as Elvis. June will find Captain Jack Sparrow sailing into DisneyShopping territory.

This year is Pooh’s 80th Birthday, and Big Figs will not miss the celebrations. Joining us in July releases with be Birthday edition of Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, and Piglet.  Also coming in July will be a 60th Anniversary ‘Song of the South’ 3-piece figure.

The Holidays begin early as September brings Santa Goofy followed in October by Peter Pan with Tinker Bell. Just recently welcomed home to the Disney Family, Olswald the Lucky Rabbit, also makes his Big Fig debut in October.

Disneyland joins in the Big Fig parade with a Mickey Drummer celebrating Disneyland’s 50th Birthday. The figure is dated in the front and includes a wind up music box. There is also a 50th Anniversary Tinker Bell figure sitting on a pillow and set a reproduction of one of the crowns found on Sleeping Beauty Castle. The real magic is when the lights go out and Tink’s fiber optic wings light up!  Next up in the Disneyland Lands series is Tomorrowland with all the light and sounds of the world of tomorrow.

Not to be outdone, Walt Disney World brings us a great Mickey and Minnie Wedding figure.  In May, at the Disney-MGM Studio’s Star Wars Event,  the force is with Mickey as he Stars as a Jedi Knight, complete with working Light-saber!  Mickey keeps in a mystic mood with the new Sorcerer Mickey works his magic over some fiber optic waves.  If that is not enough, July will bring a Pirate Mickey and a new Nemo figure. Princess Aurora awakens in August and Buzz Lightyear saves the Universe later in the year.

If this is not enough Disney Auctions tops it all with a truly golden opportunity. They will offer a 24 KT Golden Mickey!! Limited to 50, the Golden Question is how high will he go? Starting bid is $500.00.  This year they have Jessica and Roger Rabbit limited to 250 pieces. But keep watching more to come.

With all these great releases for the coming year, you might want to make some more room in your house!
